UK Car Scrappage Scheme extended until March

05/02/2010

The UK Government have announced that the controvertial Car Scrappage scheme will be extended until the end of March as the fund is still has money in it.

The scheme was due to end at the end of February or when 400,000 vehicles had been bought but the scheme is now to run for longer as money to fund tens of thousands of vehicles remains.

Several manufacturers have already announced similar schemes which will effectively extend the scheme.

The latest is Vauxhall which has announced big discounts on certain Corsa derivatives and even the new Astra.

Your 'scrappage' vehicle has to be roadworthy and over 7 years old but unlike most schemes you only have to have owned the car for 90 days

For example, you can get £3,000 off the list price of a Corsa Energy 1.0 3dr and pay only £8,925. Similarly, a Corsa SXi 1.2 3-dr will set you back £9,995.

The Vauxhall scheme, like the Government scheme is due to end at the end of March but who knows....?
