General description

Combined Citroen/Peugeot/Toyota design, all built in the same factory, that tries to combine the best bits of each brand and pretty much succeeds at it. 'Urban Lite' derivative introduced in November 2006, £450 cheaper than the 'Urban' but doesn't get the niceties of eletctic windows and remote central door locking.

Things to look for when buying one

Unless you plan on keeping it for a long while, you'll save money by buying the petrol.

If things go to plan then this should be one of the most reliable cars there is. ....except the problem with the accelerator pedal on automatics only. If you're buying secondhand, make sure the car has had the recall action performed if it needed it.

Don't get fooled into paying over the odds for the XS.

The good bits

Ultra modern and well engineered city car that should put a smile on your face. Petrols are very economical, diesels even more so.

Peugeot dealers are now offering decent deals on new and nearly new models but still visit Citroen and Totota dealers before you plump for one.

The not so good bits

You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into saving money everywhere but outcome is still good. An example of the cost savings is the fact that the rear windows of the 5 door only flip open - like the 3 door's - they don't wind up and down.

Pity the diesel is so much more to buy in the first place.

The XS is just plain daft - there is a clue in the name.....
