There's not much in life that's free, including the driving test.
The costs of taking your driving test is :-
Theory test is £28.50
Practical test is £56.50 or £67 if you want to take the test at the weekend.
There is an extended practical driving test if get yourself disqualified - it costs £99 ( or £116 if you want to take the test at the weekend).
Getting disqualified in your first 2 years of holding your licence only needs you to get 6 points on your licence, rather than the usual 12. So that's 3 points for speeding ( 35mph in a 30 zone, for example) and then your caught driving while talking on your mobile.....easy really.
But it's easy to keep it too - drive responsibly and you'll be fine.
